Q: What is tuning? A: Tuning is the process by which the piano is brought into sonic regulation with itself. It involves setting the piano to the pitch to which it is to be tuned. The tuner then sets the temperament, the 12 note pattern that governs the entire tuning. It is based on a mathematical formula that dictates that all the notes in this 12 note pattern be spaced equally apart in distance from each other. This scale has been worked out by musicians through the years and has become known as "Equal Temperament".

Q: Is aural tuning or machine tuning better?
A: A tuner should have a strong degree of training in aural tuning to better be able to use the tuning machine. The machine "hears" better in both the high and low ranges of the piano and is very useful to check the tuner's aural tuning.

Q: How old is my piano?
A: By using the serial number of your piano we can usually determine the age and where the piano was made by referencing the World Piano Atlas. _________________________________________________________________________________
